Finally got the DVD box set today... sad to see widescreen format for the episodes and the menus IMO are rather childish but sound and picture quality are obviously top notch and certainly do justice to the sampled 80s music the use.

Suppose it's too early to hear about season two but I for one am certainly looking forward to another run of this appealing, thought provoking drama.

What is wrong with widescreen? I can understand that maybe you don't have a widescreen tv at the moment but surly at somepoint in the future you will have.

It was made in widescreen and originally broadcast in widescreen so why would you expect it in any other format?

Watching Ashes to Ashes on DVD on my 37" Widescreen TV is stunning.

P.S The menus were designed to reflect retro 80's computer games, clearly influenced by the Commodore 64. I thought they were ok.

Chris

I have a widescreen television probably about the same kind of dimensions as yours, I guess it's probably because I expected it to be released as it was shown on BBC1 which was not in widescreen.

No I have nothing against widescreen although certain titles like for example 'Smokey and the Bandit (Part 3)' and 'Diamonds Are Forever' have the narrowest possible picture presented.

On reflection yeah alright I see your point about the menus... maybe I was a bit rash to criticse them!

Chris, my sincerest apologies about this.

Now that I've watched all the Spender episodes I have I've turned my attention to 'Ashes To Ashes' and its perfectly full frame for my widescreen television however it only appears in letterbox format when viewed via computer.

Regarding Season Two of 'Ashes To Ashes', thought you guys might be interested to hear, over on the 'Doctor Who Forum' someone mentioned about details of an interview she'd seen, the thread posting went something like this...

Here is an interview between Ashes to Ashes producer Beth Willis, telling us more about Series 2 (and beyond!). The whole interview can be found under the main points of the interview here:

MAIN POINTS OF THE INTERVIEW (scroll down for whole interview):

-It is now 1982, and Alex shows her uncertainty of why she is still trapped.

-In episode 1, she gets news which alters her view of what's going on in 2008 and what's happened to her. And she also gets some news in 1982 which makes her think this world is not as straightforward as she thought it was.

-This series is more darker. There is more corruption within Gene's world.

-'Supermac' is Gene's new boss.

-Talk of Sam Tyler crops up a couple of times

-A CHARACTER from Life On Mars RETURNS at some point in the series

-There is a bigger picture in Series 2 that COULD be explored in a Third Series.

-Matthew Graham and Ashley Pharaoh have ideas of Series 3 and is possibly commissioned.

Sadly couldn't find the source of this interview but sounds interesting whenever Season Two will be hitting our screens during early 2009!
