Blakes 7 - Season Four to gain a DVD Release!

Blakes 7 is a Science Fiction television series created by Terry Nation and shown by the BBC. It started in 1978 and ran until 1981 giving us four series and a very memorable finale - which to this day is still the topic of conversation between fans of the series. A rumoured remake is in development by Sky TV in the UK.

So important that I'd post it twice, here and in the news section!!!

Something else that I noticed whilst browsing a magazine in WH Smith yesterday early afternoon.

As I suspected the fourth and final series of Blake's Seven is to be released in March and is now ready for pre order (<a href='http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R2&title=852093&p=57&g=72&pa=sr' target='_blank'>http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title...p=57&g=72&pa=sr</a>)

Probably not as well known as other seasons this run does have some notable guest stars to recommend it. Step forward Juliet Hammond Hill ('Secret Army' star appearing in 'Power'), Richard Morris ('Kessler' & 'Warship' star appearing in 'Traitor'), Lynda Bellingham (appearing in 'Headhunter'), Roy Kinear (appearing in 'Gold') and of course it features new regular Glynis Barber as 'Soolin' who can also be seen in the Season 1 DVD release of 'Dempsey and Makepeace'.

So as we can now see, Season Four is blue in colour instead of the expected green (the colour of Vern featured in the 'Sand' story) and surprisingly Dayna is on the spine instead of what some people here were expecting to be Vila.

No word as yet as to which episode have been selected for commentary honours. I wonder if (previously here) I have guessed correctly???

Also worth mentioning its always worth keeping an eye on the <a href="http://www.bbfc.co.uk" target="_blank">British Board of Film Classification</a> website for clues on forthcoming releases.

Just noticed the following two entries regarding DVD extras for Season Four

00:30:14:10 FOREVER AVON
00:00:55:20 (BLAKE'S 7 SERIES 4 DVD ASSETS - OPENING TITLES CLEAN VERSION)
00:11:34:15 (BLAKE'S 7 SERIES 4 DVD ASSETS - STUDIO RECORDING - GAMES -1)
00:02:34:20 (BLAKE'S 7 SERIES 4 DVD ASSETS - STUDIO RECORDING - GAMES -2 STAND BY TO LURCH)
00:06:43:24 (BLAKE'S 7 SERIES 4 DVD ASSETS - STUDIO RECORDING - GOLD)
00:02:15:23 (BLAKE'S 7 SERIES 4 DVD ASSETS - TERRY NATION ON SERIES 4)

00:02:30:04 INTRODUCING SOOLIN
00:01:49:21 INTRODUCING SLAVE
00:15:43:05 BLAKE'S BLOOPS SERIES 4
00:05:06:23 ELIZABETH PARKER - SPECIAL SOUND
1979 - 81
00:08:48:05 BLUE PETER
00:31:05:05 KEN LEDSHAM'S B7 DESIGN
00:38:48:13 SPECIAL SOUNDS RADIOPHONICS

Gives you some clue as to what additional material we are likely to see towards the end of April 2006! B)

Just thought I'd let you all know...

You can buy Season Four marginally cheaper at the <a href="http://www.bbcshop.com/invt/bbcdvd1186&bklist=<venda_bklist1>" target="_blank">BBC Shop website</a>

Just read in Issue 201 of TV Zone that there are no commentaries  on season four and the extras are also pretty pathetic as well. Plus the CGI, apparently, of Scorpio is rubbish.

A worse package than Season One, it certainly is beginning to look that way!

If, like me you are getting this to 'complete the collection' of all four seasons my suggestion is to either, get it as cheap as possible or wait a few months until internet based retailers start discounting it.

Certainly not a value for money product

As mentioned in the Wink <a href="http://www.tvgold.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=238" target="_blank">news thread</a> here I am stepping back from the disappointment I relayed in my previous post...

contrary to certain magazine reviews the Season Four box set of Blake's Seven does indeed contain commentaries!

Today, Friday 21st April, I received my copy of this product and having quickly glanced over the packaging, I can confirm to you guys that 'Assassin' and 'Blake' both gain commentary options.

On 'Assassin' you have Paul Darrow and Jacqueline Pearce, no doubt intermittently waffing on, without a moderator what can you expect!

However, showing more promise, on the dramatic season and series finale 'Blake' the makers of this release have pulled together actors Paul Darrow and Gareth Thomas alongside the writer, no doubt softly spoken (if his 'Star Cops' commentary is anything to go by) Chris Boucher.

No doubt more about this release coming soon...
