The last princess or The honest broker

Fall of Eagles is the BBC's stunning 1974 dramatisation of the declining years and final collapse of three of the most powerful European dynasties ? the Hapsburgs, Romanovs and Hohenzollerns ? between the mid-19th century and the end of the First World War.

Hi all, not sure which of these episodes are appropiate but I was in one of them as a baby sat on Gemma Jones knee as a baby kaiser. It was filmed at Thoresby Hall in Nottinghamshire in 1974.
Can anybody throw any light on this? I have never seen the series.

Sounds like an interesting question!

I'll have a look over the episodes you mentioned over the weekend and hope to get back to you about this soon.

best wishes

Thanks very much, that would be really nice of you. Gemma Jones was only those two episodes as far as I know so it has to be one of them.

answering your question

Well actually it turned out not to be that difficult a question afterall and, having a bit of free time I figured it out and would like to reply with...

Regarding your enquiry about a scene in ?Fall of Eagles? where you are ?A baby sat on Gemma Jones knee as a baby Kaiser? I first turned my attention to the chronology which features on the back cover of Andy Priestner?s informative Viewing Notes booklet included with the DVD box set release and noted that there was mention of ?a birth of Prince Willhelm of Prussia? in 1859. This date specifically corresponds to events chronicled in second episode ?The English Princess? so thumbing through the contents I have indeed, rather quickly come across the scene you remember. It occurs at the start of Chapter Three (?The New Recruit?) where the baby has the full attention of both Gemma?s and Denis Lill?s characters whilst they deliver their scripted lines to one another.

Thanks for identifying the location used for filming, certainly an impressively grand residence and one that since acquiring my copy of the series on DVD I?ve occasionally speculated as to where in the UK it was.

Shame you haven?t as yet seen this series as it is a sadly neglected historic BBC classic with a wealth of impressive acting talent and performances on offer. Thanks to the splendid work of Andy Priestner and the people at DD Home Entertainment this is indeed a marvellous DVD box set title further embellished with informative highly detailed viewing notes, photo galleries and essential bonus cast interviews.

You can get it from all good retailers like - http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/489313/Fall_Of_Eagles_Complete_Series/Product.html

Best wishes

Shame I have to buy the whole box set though, I am watching one on Ebay at the moment. Thanks so much for the info though and I am looking forward to seeing it.
