I've noticed in Charlie Brooker's 'Screen Burn' column today on page 52 of The Guardian newspapers 'The Guide' booklet he is quoted as having said that 'The Martians and Us' (documentary on Monday 9pm BBC4) is
an unmissable, timely documentary series examining the history of UK Sci-Fi. I say "timely" because it arrives a few weeks after the death of Nigel Kneale, who, in creating the BBC serial Quatermass back in the 1950s, single-handedly set the tone for all British TV sci-fi to follow
'The Guide' also says that
BBC4's Science Fiction Britannia season starts with HG Wells - Time travel, invisibility and alien invasion. Not a bad start. Plus Adam Adamant, Doomwatch, The Survivors, Blake's 7 and The Tripods.
I note that a six-part 'behind the scenes stories of cult British sci-fi shows' series entitled 'The Cult of...' kicks off on Tuesday, 14th November with a look at Adam Adamant. Other series will be going under the spotlight in subsequent programs, the second will feature 'Doomwatch'
