What Is Your Favorite Series?

The BBC's brilliant SECRET ARMY dramatised the lives of the brave men and women who ran the resistance evasion lines, which assisted Allied aircrews to escape from German occupied countries into neutral countries like Spain or Switzerland, during the Second World War

It's got to be series three for me-apart from the fact my favourite character is there-it's just so quick moving and wraps up the entire run really well.
I can't think of a better programme to illustrate what's great about British telly, it has everything-in all series, but series three is so exciting-it wins.
My only whinge is that it would have been nice to have seen Curtis once more-that would have been very moving.

I like series 2 best. Completely agree with Reinhardt above though, it would have been great to see Curtis back again.

I'd probably say Season Two would be my favourite as the fragmentation of the end of the war in Season Three rather took the edge off the dangerous objectives of returning airmen for Lifeline. Not too keen on Season One, mainly because it has a cafe rather than the plush restaurant feel of Season's Two and Three.

For me each of the three series are excellent in their own way. My only disappointment was towards the end of Series 3 how the story for the lifeline regulars seemed rather rushed and not particualarly believable.
The Kessler/Rheihardt/Duclos story became more interesting all the time though.
I remember watching "Kessler" as a ten year old, and being rather disappointed after "Secret Army". I am in the process of watching it on DVD at the moment, it is good, but not a patch on Secret Army.
I think Clifford Rose's idea of picking up the Kessler story immediately after the war would have been far more interesting. We could have seen how the "Ratlines" worked, this would have been an interesting contrast to the evasion lines in "Secret Army", as someone else mentioned elsewhere.

First post. Hi!. Only a little bit in watching the second series so trying not to see too much on this board what eventually happens! It was on when I was a child although I don't think my mother or grandparents watched it so I missed out, now I'm renting the episodes on-line and am rivetted! I thought it was sad that Jan Francis's Yvette was killed off and the second series doesn't seem the same without her. I noticed too there were more sound effects (dramatic rolls of drums etc.) which startled me and put me off a bit. Getting used to that now. Good to see the private lives of the Germans though, seeing them as humans so to speak! I'll soon get through them - usually watch two an evening, so I can make my mind up then. All I can say now is that they don't make 'em like they used to! ::D

To be honest I think all three series are as good as each other and find it very hard to choose. However if I had to I would pick series 1, because for me it still has the most impact. In fact episode one sets the tone of the entire run beautifully. Having all three series on DVD and having watched them at least three times fully through, that first episode still does it for both me and my wife. Fantastic. Very Happy

My favourite was the 2nd series, although i am currently watching the 3rd and really enjoying that too - in this last series the Germans are more focused on making plans to evacuate the country rather than hunt down the evasion lines, also Albert is in prison so does not feature too heavily in many of these episodes - so for me, the 2nd series has the edge.

Series 2, the acting is top rate and the chartacters beging to get more fleshed out. Series 3 drift's off towards the end and in series 1 you are only getting to know the characters. Although saying that I don't think there is a weak series amongst them.

Oooo...tough one.

I can't really give an answer because I like them all the same. If I had to give an answer with Kessler stood over me then i'd say series 1 because it had Curtis (My favourite character).

It's got to be series 3 for me, as Reinhardt says, my fave character is in it! However, I enjoyed all three - they were all different and all good. I didn't feel that series 3 was rushed, or if it was it reflected the fact that some of the Germans were in denial about the war being lost, particularly Kessler, who seemed unable to accept inevitable defeat until the very last minute.

I think series two was best for tension and thrills.

I like the 3 Series for different reasons. Series 1 caught the gritty day to day reality of occupation. Secondly as it was in the
early days of Lifeline you could see the mistakes they made and how they learnt from them. Series 2 the tension was excellent
as was the addition of Max and the transformation of Brandt. Series 3 was excellent with the addition of Reinhardt, and
I was impressed how the writers created the chaos of liberation-the good bad and ugly.

The first series. I think it has to do with the lack of singing from Monique, to be honest :!: It's an integral part of the series of course, but not really my cup of tea.

Aside from that I like the Cafe Candide interior, Christopher Neame's Curtis and the general exploration of the Line and its operation.
