BBC - Colditz

Hi,

Does anyone know when they are going to release Colditz the TV Series on to DVD. This which was shown on the BBC between 1972 and 1974.

I remember watching this excellent series, and would like to see it again.

It was also produced by Gerard (Gerry) Glaister, who produced a number of
Wartime drama.

I have heard somewhere that there is some kind of dispute between the BBC and Universal the programmes producers, but not sure if that's true or not.

There is another one in particular, I can remember from 1963 called ?Moonstrike? about the activities of SOE (Special Operations Executive). I believe that there are only 3 out of 27 episodes which survive. That was when the BBC wiped over their video tapes. Very shortsighted and what a loss!

Many thanks.

welcome aboard

Yeah, as you've probably seen in this section, we've already had some discussion about the classic BBC TV series 'Colditz' and I share your view that it is certainly well overdue for either a repeat transmission (maybe over on UK TV Drama) or a comprehensive DVD release.

To my knowledge (and I could obviously be wrong about this) but I doubt anything has changed since Andy last posted regarding this series.

However I hope Andy will come back to us about what the current situation (are things still totally static???) is in the near future. I certainly share your (and many other's) opinion that it would be marvellous to see this once more.

Yes Sarah that's right - no change. One of the writers is refusing to give clearance for his episodes.

cheers

Andy

Thanks Andy, appreciate that

It is a great shame that there is still someone still 'dragging their heels' about this.

I am a great fan of David McCullum's work. Obviously he's probably best remembered for his regular 'Man For U.N.C.L.E.' and 'Sapphire & Steel' roles, but I'm always keen to see him in something else from the archives and 'Colditz' would be absolutely perfect for this.

At present he's currently known as the slightly rambling but memorable Doctor 'Ducky' Mallard in the enjoyable American 'NCIS' series (one of my favourites, despite it's occasionally grissly plots)

Just have to hope things will change in the future.

Hmph-what a pity.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that things get sorted out.

Andy, what do these writers or other artists objecting give as their reason? Surely they would welcome a little bit of royalty payments rather than allow the series to languish on the shelves and no longer able to be appreciated by anyone.

Hi

I am in constant touch with the Colditz Society and there is no change. I fortunatley have the UK GOLD showing which was the last time the series was shown. I have now converted to DVD so no danger of tapes wearing out. We live in hope that the serie will come out one day.

I'm not completely sure, but is the channel Yesterday about to start showing this classic series?
I caught a glimpse of an advert on tv last night for 26th October 2010......with a documentary on Colditz castle the day before.
Hope this is right - anyone know for sure?
