The legendary television series Upstairs Downstairs is to be revived by the BBC, it has been announced.

Cranford writer Heidi Thomas is penning two new feature-length scripts - set in 1936 in the same iconic house in London's Belgravia - for transmission on BBC One next year.

Jean Marsh will reprise her role as parlourmaid Rose, returning to the house as housekeeper to its new residents, the wealthy and well-connected Holland family. She will be joined by Dame Eileen Atkins for the reboot.

There was a story on our local radio station (BBC Coventry & Warwickshire) this morning about this. They said there will be 3 episodes made and they will be screened near the end of 2010. They have been filming some of the exterior scenes of the house in Leamington Spa and that is why it was covered by our local station. They mentioned the part about Jean Marsh reprising her role and also that Keeley Hawes was in it too.

I am old enough (just) to remember it from the last time, but not old enough to have been interested to watch it.
